Project Description

Otium Planning Group (OPG) remains the trusted aquatic and leisure facility advisor to the City of Gold Coast (COGC).  Commencing with the development of a whole-of-city aquatics strategy, OPG has since been involved in the planning for multiple new and redeveloped aquatic facilities on the Gold Coast.

The COGC Aquatic Strategy incorporated a new approach to better service the growing and changing Gold Coast community.  This approach involved establishing a network of aquatic facilities with differential facility, program and service offerings and of varying scales, including:

  • A city-wide centre
  • Sub-regional centres
  • District centres
  • A high performance centre.

As a result, the COGC have progressed the following projects with further assistance from Otium Planning Group:

  • Miami Aquatic Centre redevelopment into a high-performance centre:
    • OPG prepared the Master Plan
    • Works completed 2021.
  • Pimpama Sports Hub (including aquatic and leisure facilities) as a new sub-regional centre:
    • OPG prepared the Needs Analysis, Feasibility Study and Business Case, and provided Design Advice.
    • Due to open late 2021.
  • Palm Beach Aquatic Centre redevelopment into a sub-regional centre:
    • OPG prepared the Needs Analysis, Hydrotherapy Pool Analysis and is currently providing Design Advice.
    • Detailed design in progress.
