Project Description

Otium was appointed to develop a business case and economic assessment for the expansion of the Auburn Basketball Centre.

The expansion of the centre would provide an accessible sport facility that supports talent identification and development pathways – from aspiring elite athletics to elite performance and mastery. The intended outcomes of the project included:

  • Supporting the enhancement of inclusive elite sport infrastructure including dedicated female programs and facilities to improve pathways for women and girls.
  • Enhancing the existing capacity of the Parramatta Basketball Association and community, health and liveability benefits associated with increased participation in sport.
  • Maximising the use of the proposed show court by hosting major events across multiple sporting codes and other community events.

Our role included the following tasks:

  • Background information review
  • Office of Sport funding requirements review
  • Context and catchment mapping including demographic analysis
  • Financial and operational appraisal
  • Economic appraisal with industry partners
  • Stakeholder engagement summary
  • Developing project programs, project risk management and governance arrangements
  • Business case development.
