Project Description

Otium Planning Group were engaged by the City of Ryde (City) to determine the need, opportunities and best approach for Council, in addressing the undersupply of indoor courts within the City, giving consideration to each venue’s viability, feasibility and required capital investment.

More specifically, Otium were asked to assess the short-term need for additional indoor sports halls and courts in the City and identify the scale, preferred components and most appropriate locations for such facilities.

The demand analysis quantified a four-court shortfall in indoor sports facility provision, that would need to be accommodated between 2031 and 2036. This is on the basis of eight courts being provided through education sites proceeding as planned.  Should the education site projects not proceed, then there would be a shortfall of 12 indoor courts to meet future demand projections.

After assessing a number of options (6) to address this shortfall, it was recommended to implement the master plans for both the Ryde Aquatic and Leisure Centre (RALC), including an additional 2 courts, as well as the Ryde Community Sports Centre (RCSC) with an additional 2 courts.

Otium also considered the best management approach for each of the venues mentioned above.  Out of the 6 management arrangements available, the preferred options were recommended, however, final determination of the preferred option/s can only be made once the preferred facility expansion option is confirmed.
