Project Description

Otium Planning Group was engaged by the Hobsons Bay City Council to prepare an Aquatics Strategy 2019-2030. This Strategy outlines how to best provide for aquatic facilities in Hobsons Bay for the next 10 years.

The Strategy explored a range of development options to meet the current unmet and future demand for aquatic and leisure in Hobsons Bay.

In addition to the participation demand and leisure trends analysis, the Strategy assessed the condition of the existing facilities together with the operational performance of the facilities.

The Strategy has recommended upgrade to the Bayfit Leisure Centre to service the east of Hobsons Bay with additional programmable wet and dry spaces, together with a new contemporary Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Altona Meadows to service the west of Hobsons Bay. The Strategy also proposes a reimaging of the Laverton Swim and Fitness Centre that will be decommissioned, and a new water play and youth park developed.

Three strategic objectives were developed:

Strategic Objective One
High quality facilities that best provide for Hobsons Bay residents in the East and West.

Strategic Objective Two
Accessible, affordable and inclusive facilities and participation opportunities.

Strategic Objective Three
Well planned, maintained and managed facilities.
