Project Description
Rounsefell Design led a multi-disciplinary consultant team to design a major new destination parkland on this centrally located 6.5ha site in Chinchilla. A Feasibility Study undertaken in late 2016 investigated non-potable water supply options, potential land contamination, flora, fauna and cultural heritage values. This was followed by extensive Stakeholder Engagement by Rounsefell Design and Otium Planning Group.
The recently announced $6 million combined Council and State Government funding now provides the Chinchilla community with an opportunity to realise their long-held aspirations for the site. When complete, the site will provide an attractive and integrated community space and include a major event and performance space, new Regional Botanical Garden, market space, major playground, picnic facilities, integration of on-site cultural heritage into the design (including Aboriginal scar trees and historical museum) as well as provide a new location for the town cenotaph for Anzac Day ceremonies.
Rounsefell Design subsequently led the finalisation of the concept master plan to guide the next 20 years of development, through to detailed design and construction documentation for the first stages of development.
The Parklands were officially opened in May 2019.
