Project Description

Gymnastics Queensland engaged Otium team members to prepare a statewide Facility Plan. The aim of the plan was to identify current training and competition facility priorities and longer term needs in response to projected population growth throughout the state.

Gymnastics Queensland wanted to ensure the plan was based on sound empirical research that would satisfy the rigorous requirements of external funding agencies. The plan illustrates the health benefits, participation numbers and trends in this popular sport, and integrates with the recommendations of sport and recreation facility studies undertaken by Local Authorities. Key aspects of the study included:

  • Detailed background research into statewide and national participation trends, membership comparisons with other sports and local government planning.
  • An analysis of facilities throughout the state and consultation with affiliated clubs.
  • Detailed analysis of population projections within the gymnastics age groups.
  • Mapping facilities and population growth to identify current or projected gaps in provision
  • Prioritisation of facility needs and an implementation plan.
