The Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works, Sport and Recreation Services appointed Otium Planning Group to undertake a Venues Strategy and Venue Master Plans for five venues.

The Department, through SRS, is responsible for “ensuring that Queenslanders lead active and healthy lifestyles through participation in physical activity.”

The SRS venues provide a range of opportunities for people of all ages to actively participate in physical activity and are a valuable resource for the Department and the communities in which they operate.   The effective and sustainable management of these purpose-built sport and recreation venues, together with a strong vision clearly defining their strategic purpose and role is critical in ensuring the Department is able to provide services that generate increased participation in sport and recreation by Queenslanders.

The aim of the Venues Strategy was to provide a clear direction on the role, function and investment preferences for the Department and its Venues and subsequently continue to provide quality opportunities for Queenslanders to engage in sport and active recreation pursuits

Otium has recommended that in order to ensure SRS venues continue to meet these objectives in future, key performance measures should be amended to reflect the collective vision for the venues and the individual venue vision, principles and outcomes. We have provided SRS a vision for each venue and the key principles required in order to realise the vision, to maintain the current strengths of the venues and capitalise on new opportunities.

Individual master plans are being prepared for each venue with a final Venues’ Strategy anticipated in late 2018.
