Our team members have been involved in major projects for the provision of basketball facilities in Victoria and New South Wales.

In Victoria, Otium was appointed by Knox City Council to develop a usage demand and financial model for the potential expansion of the State Basketball Centre at the Knox Regional Sports Park.

A review of the demand for basketball courts in the City of Knox identified that there had been an increase in participation following the development of Stage One of the Knox Regional Sports Park.  Council had also identified that there had been a great increase in participants at the local gymnastics centre, which was also running at capacity and had a large waiting list.  The inclusion of a gymnastics facility at the Knox Regional Sports Park would enable the facility to be a multi-purpose competition and training facility

The Victorian State Government has recently announced that a re-elected Labor Government will provide $82 million towards the expansion project, with Knox City Council to contribute the remaining $25 million.

In NSW, our team members worked with Basketball NSW to develop a Major State Basketball Facilities Strategic Plan in in 2014.  Some of the key outcomes of that project included the sport identifying current gaps in facility provision and how best to assess planned future indoor court development projects, maximising the use and increasing the quality and sustainability of all basketball facilities in New South Wales and enabling Basketball NSW to be at the forefront of indoor sport facility planning.

As a result of the strategic plan, Basketball NSW is now planning to develop the best State Home of Basketball and Centre of Excellence in Australia including the new headquarters for Basketball NSW.

It has been developed by Basketball NSW as a significant Future Government Sport Partnership Project and Basketball NSW aims to obtain bi-partisan support between the State Sport Association and Local, State and Federal Governments.

Otium Planning Group Director Mike King has been working with Basketball NSW to prepare a briefing document to present to the State Government to gain government funding support to assist in developing the facility requirements, identification and assessment of sites, design and concept plans and consideration of funding support including advocacy to local government and federal government representatives on partnering in this high need project to bring the project to the next stage.
